Medical and Allergen Disclaimer
Version 1.0, effective 20 July 2026
Chomply helps you check ingredient lists against the avoidances you have set up. It is an information tool, not medical advice, and it cannot promise that a food is safe for you. A CLEARED result never means "safe to eat". Always read the physical label, and in an emergency treat the reaction and call 000. This disclaimer explains, in plain terms, what the app can and cannot do so you can rely on it sensibly.
What Chomply is
Chomply compares the ingredient information we hold for a product against the avoidances you have configured on a profile, and tells you whether it found a match. That is the whole of what it does.
Chomply is an information and convenience tool only. It is not medical advice, not a diagnostic tool, and not a medical device. It does not diagnose allergies or intolerances, does not treat any condition, and is not a substitute for professional judgement. Nothing the app shows you is a clinical opinion about your health or the health of anyone in your household.
In plain terms: think of Chomply as a fast second pair of eyes on an ingredient list, not as a doctor and not as a guarantee.
Always read the physical label
The packaging in your hand is the authoritative source of truth for what is in a product. If the app and the label disagree, the label wins, every time.
Manufacturers change recipes and formulations often, and they frequently do so without changing the barcode and without telling anyone in advance. The product you scan today may not match the product the same barcode described last month. Regional versions of the "same" product can differ as well.
In plain terms: never skip reading the actual label because the app gave you a result. Read the label first, and use the app to help, not the other way around.
What CLEARED means
CLEARED means only one thing: we did not find a match between the ingredient data we currently hold for that product and the avoidances on the profile you scanned against.
CLEARED does not mean the food is safe for you. It does not mean the food is free of your allergen. It does not account for ingredients missing from our data, recipe changes, undeclared traces, or anything the label lists that we do not hold. A CLEARED result is a starting point for your own check, never the end of it.
In plain terms: CLEARED means "we did not spot a problem in the data we have". It does not mean "safe". Only you, reading the label, can decide whether to eat or serve a food.
What FLAGGED means
FLAGGED means we found a possible match between the product's ingredient data and one of your avoidances.
FLAGGED is a prompt to stop and check the label yourself. It is not a diagnosis, and it is not a guarantee that the ingredient is actually present. Ingredient data can be wrong or ambiguous, and a flag can be raised by a similar name or a shared term. Treat it as a useful warning to investigate, not as a final verdict.
In plain terms: FLAGGED means "worth a closer look". Read the label and decide for yourself.
Where our data comes from and how it can be wrong
The product and ingredient information in Chomply comes from third-party databases, including Open Food Facts, UPC ItemDB and FatSecret, and in some cases from submissions by other users.
This information can be incomplete, out of date, entered incorrectly, or specific to a different country or a different version of a product. Community submissions are not verified by us for accuracy. Because our result is only ever as good as the data behind it, any error or gap in that data can lead to a wrong result, including a CLEARED result for a product that actually contains your allergen.
In plain terms: we do not manufacture the food and we do not control the ingredient data, so we cannot promise it is complete or correct.
Cross-contamination and traces
Chomply cannot detect cross-contamination. No scan can tell you about undeclared traces, ingredients introduced on a shared production line, or "may contain" risks that are not printed in the ingredient data.
If you react to trace amounts of an allergen, the app cannot protect you from that risk. Precautionary allergen statements (for example "may contain traces of nuts") are a manufacturer responsibility and may not appear in the data we hold at all.
In plain terms: a clear result says nothing about traces or shared equipment. If tiny amounts matter for you, the app cannot cover that, and the label and the manufacturer are your source.
Photo and text recognition
When you photograph a label, Chomply uses optical character recognition (OCR) to read the text. OCR can misread or skip words, especially in poor light, on curved or reflective packaging, on creased labels, or where the print is small.
Always review the extracted ingredients that the app shows you before relying on any verdict based on them. If the extracted text looks wrong or incomplete, do not trust the result.
In plain terms: the camera can misread a label. Check what it captured before you rely on it.
Sage and AI features
Sage and other AI features generate answers automatically. Those answers can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, and they can sound confident while still being incorrect.
Never rely on an AI-generated answer to make a safety decision about what you or a member of your household can eat. Use it for general guidance and convenience only, and verify anything that matters against the label and a qualified professional.
In plain terms: Sage is helpful for questions, but it is not a safe basis for deciding whether a food will hurt you.
Pinpoint
Pinpoint looks for statistical patterns between the foods you log and the reactions you log. It can surface possible associations worth discussing with a professional.
A pattern is not proof. Correlation is not causation, and Pinpoint cannot confirm that a particular food caused a particular reaction. It is never a substitute for clinical allergy testing or a diagnosis from a qualified practitioner.
In plain terms: Pinpoint can point out things that seem to line up, but only proper testing can tell you what is actually going on.
In an emergency
Never use this app to decide whether to treat a reaction, and never let checking the app delay treatment.
If you suspect anaphylaxis (for example trouble breathing, swelling of the face, lips or throat, a widespread rash, faintness or collapse), use your adrenaline autoinjector immediately and call 000 (or your local emergency number) right away. Do not wait, and do not open the app first.
In plain terms: in an emergency, treat the person and call 000. The app has no role in an emergency.
Get professional advice
Always consult a doctor, allergist or accredited practising dietitian before making significant changes to a diet, and especially before changing a child's diet. Diagnosing and managing allergies and intolerances is medical work.
Do not delay seeking medical advice, and do not disregard advice you have already been given, because of anything you have seen in this app.
In plain terms: talk to a qualified professional about your allergies and diet. The app supports those conversations, it does not replace them.
No practitioner relationship
Using Chomply does not create a doctor-patient relationship, a dietitian-client relationship, or any other professional or fiduciary relationship between you and us.
In plain terms: we are a software provider, not your health practitioner.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for keeping the avoidance profiles you use accurate and up to date, including the profiles you set up for members of your household. A result is only meaningful if the profile behind it is correct.
The final decision about what you eat, and about what you serve to anyone else, is always yours. Chomply informs that decision, it does not make it for you.
In plain terms: keep your profiles correct, and own the final call on what goes in the trolley and on the plate.
Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in this disclaimer excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under any other law, that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified.
Where the law allows us to limit our liability, we do so, but where it does not, this disclaimer does not attempt to take away rights you are legally entitled to.
In plain terms: this disclaimer sets sensible limits, but it does not override the legal rights you have as a consumer in Australia.
[FOR LEGAL REVIEW: confirm this disclaimer is sufficient to rebut any implied representation of fitness for a safety-critical purpose, and confirm whether any Therapeutic Goods Administration classification could apply to a consumer allergen-screening tool.]
