Manual Text Entry
Published 19 July 2026 · 7 views
When there is no barcode and no clear label to photograph, you can type the ingredients in yourself.
Manual entry is the backup that always works. You enter the ingredient list by hand, and Chomply checks it against your Avoidances: the ingredients, allergens, and additives you have asked it to watch for. Checking a product this way is still a Scan, and it ends in the same Verdict as any other: CLEARED or FLAGGED.
Enter ingredients by hand
- Choose to type the ingredients in. Chomply offers this whenever a barcode is not found.
- Type or paste the ingredient list exactly as it is printed on the packet.
- Add any "may contain" trace warnings in the separate field if the label lists them.
- Check your spelling, since Chomply matches on the words you enter.
- Confirm to see your Verdict.
Tips for a good result
- Copy the wording straight from the label, not from memory.
- Keep the commas between ingredients so each one is read on its own.
- Include the small print, like additives and numbers, since those can match an Avoidance too.
Typed the ingredients for a barcode Chomply did not know? It can share them, so the next person who scans that product gets a faster answer.
