Setting Up Avoidances

Published 19 July 2026 · 7 views

An Avoidance tells Chomply which ingredient to watch for on every product you scan.

An Avoidance is a single ingredient, allergen, or additive you want to steer clear of. You build a list of them, and every Scan (a barcode, a photo of a label, or ingredients you type in) checks a product against that list.

Add an avoidance

  1. Open your avoidances page.
  2. Search the box for an ingredient, allergen, or diet pack and tap a result to add it fast. Or tap Add a custom avoidance to fill in the details yourself.
  3. Name the ingredient you want to watch for.
  4. Pick a Type: allergen, intolerance, dietary preference, religious restriction, or personal dislike.
  5. Set a Severity: Severe, Allergy, Sensitivity, or Preference. It reflects how serious the reaction is, and it groups your list.
  6. Save it.

What happens next

Your new Avoidance joins the profile that is on screen. From then on, every Scan compares a product's ingredient list against it and returns a Verdict: CLEARED when nothing matches, or FLAGGED when something does.

Looking after a family? Switch profiles at the top of the page to give each person their own list.
